About Us

History

The Clear Creek Militia Chapter, NSDAR, was founded on April 18, 1992.  June Medlin Baucom was the organizing chapter regent and there were 18 charter members. We are fortunate to still have two of those founding members in our chapter to this day.

Captain Adam Alexander was the first commander of the Clear Creek Company and later signed the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence. He is buried in the original cemetery of the Clear Creek Presbyterian Church, which is now called Philadelphia Presbyterian Church. Clear Creek Militia Chapter, NSDAR, has honored Captain, later Colonel, Adam Alexander’s memory by adding a DAR plaque to his gravestone. We still have some of his descendants in our chapter. For more information about local American Revolutionary War battles and participants, check out Clear Creek and Rocky River – A Carolina Family History by John Hood.

The Mecklenburg County list of militia dated June 7, 1766, was commanded by Captain Adam Alexander.

Meetings

We have chapter meetings on the second Saturday of the month from January through May and September through December. Our programs focus on historical topics, genealogy, and volunteer efforts. We welcome visitors and prospective members. By attending a meeting, you will have the opportunity to meet DAR members who have the experience to assist you in obtaining DAR membership.
